We develop innovations that address unmet healthcare needs.

Mission

Global Health Labs, Inc (GH Labs) innovates to reduce health disparities, especially in low- and middle-income countries.

As a nonprofit corporation fully funded by Gates Ventures (the private office of Bill Gates), we partner with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other cross-sector leaders to develop health technology solutions for the people who need them most.

Areas of Focus

With specialized expertise in noncommunicable and infectious disease, our multi-disciplinary teams drive hardware, software, and in vitro diagnostic innovations across three strategic focus areas:

+
Diagnostics
+
Primary Healthcare Tools and Equipment
+
Women’s, Newborn, and Child Health

Approach

Guided by our belief that everyone everywhere deserves the healthcare they need to thrive, we first work with a broad range of experts to assess gaps and how to bridge them through technology innovation.

From there, we collaborate with healthcare providers, clinical researchers, commercial partners, and regulatory authorities to ensure each technology solution is effective, appropriate, and sustainable for the patients we serve.

History

After Global Health Labs, Inc was established in 2020 as a nonprofit corporation, we acquired the assets and technical achievements of the Intellectual Ventures (IV) Global Good Fund, a collaborative effort between Bill Gates and IV that leveraged invention to tackle some of humanity’s toughest problems.

Today, as an independent lab, we build on the ten years of innovation and impact of the IV Global Good Fund in close alignment with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Partner With Us

While the distance between a new idea and a successful product can be long and expensive, we are resourced to innovate for impact. Our onsite mechanical engineering, instrumentation, electronics, and optics laboratories, plus a BSL2+ biochemistry wet laboratory, also equip us to deliver innovation with thoughtful speed and agility.

Whatever technical, market, and regulatory hurdles arise, we help our partners overcome them by:

  • De-risking early-stage research and development
  • Developing and validating prototypes
  • Co-leading research in different geographies
  • Providing open access to select patents
  • Sharing data and other patents, when appropriate
  • Transferring technologies for commercial use
  • Publishing results for the public good
